LIFE SCIENCES—Menon’s bio-scanners were developed by the company with the hopes of saving lives and improving security for the homeland. • Biological Analyte Scanner: MENTOR-100 There
is a need for a compact instrument to detect and identify analytes such
as Avian Influenza virus, Foot and Mouth virus and biological weapons
such as B. anthracis. This instrument should be useful
for biodetection in the field where the biological pathogen is mixed with
interferants from the environment, with varying sample volumes and
multiplexed for a large number of threat species. The
Life Sciences Division employs biochemists, microbiologists and system
engineers to build instruments to help mankind diagnose and fight
disease. The Company is funded by the Department of Homeland
Security and the US military through the Defense Threat Reduction
Agency to build and deploy MENTOR-100 systems in various
locations. The instrument meets all the needs for field
installation and monitoring. It is configurable for portable and
fixed installation. Through blind tests conducted by US Army, the
system has been demonstrated to detect biological threats. A high
throughput biological analyte scanner called MENTOR-500 is under
development.
